The Ending Family Homelessness Symposium was held Nov 7 2008 at Hart House, University of Toronto. This event was hosted by Cities Centre at University of Toronto, and it was developed in consultation with a wide range of individuals and organizations from across Ontario's Golden Horseshoe. Over 100 people participated from 12 different Southern Ontario regions, representing shelters in the family violence and homelessness sectors, housing help centres, municipal departments, a provincial ministry, child and family services, Aboriginal community organizations, housing providers, grassroots, self-advocacy and direct action groups, immigrant and settlement organizations, groups advocating for people without status, legal advocacy groups, research and education institutions and people with lived experience of homelessness.

Morning sessions focused on policy areas. The purpose of these sessions was to discuss policy changes that are needed, identify leverage points and opportunities for action within each policy area, and make an action plan.

Afternoon sessions focused on practices. These sessions offered an opportunity to share practices and knowledge, and identify concrete changes to improve services, research, and advocacy on family homelessness.

All session notes are based on discussion in sessions, and do not necessarily represent the consensus of all present. For more detail about this event please refer to the Ending Family Homelessness Symposium Invitation, Program, and Final Report.
